Photosynthesis is the process by which the energy (photons) from sunlight is harnessed by green plants containing the green pigment chlorophyll to obtain glucose from water and carbon dioxide.
Equation of Photosynthesis
6CO2+ 12H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
  • Photosynthesis is divided into two phases.
  • “The light-dependent phase”
  • “The light independent phase”.
  • ”Photolysis of water”:- Splitting of water molecules by photons (radiant energy) into hydrogen and oxygen, giving of excited electrons,
  • The “excited electrons”, from the Chlorophyll molecules are used to produce (NADPH + H+).
  • (NADPH + H+) reduces or fixes Carbon dioxide to glucose in the Dark (light Independent) reactions.
  • The glucose molecules so formed are converted into “starch”, and stored.
  • Chlorophyll molecules are located in “Chloroplasts”.
